PREMIERE: Plant43 - Embers of the Old World Fade [Silver Threads]
More often known for his electro-drenched breaks and raucous dancefloor releases, Emile Facey aka Plant43’s forthcoming album on Silver Threads is quite a special foray into the ambient and drone worlds. Not only as their third release, but also because the imprint is run by his partner of over 27 years, Jo Johnson. Following releases by Raica, and herself, the label has quickly become a must listen whenever the name crosses our proverbial desks as only quality music can await.
Spells For Warding Off Evil lands as a 12 tracker with Facey in true Plant43 fashion showing his talents in sound design. Each track is full to the brim with rippling bass lines and experimental melodies that create some incredibly haunting moments such as in Unbroken Hex. As with his other productions however, there is a balance and soon the melodies start to pull us from the depths, giving some light and electro feelings.
Embers of the Old World Fade immediately gives a sense of warmth as Facey expertly layers and layers synths upon each other, with each passing moment feeling like a wide auditory expanse of space is being consumed. Nestled within is a rhythmic melody that seems to ebb and flow, alive and breathing giving movement and supported by a series of stringlike hopeful pads.
