PREMIERE: Pajaro Dune - Evil Was Already There [Sediments]
Over the last few years, it’s been a privilege to spend time between festivals, club nights, and all the moments in-between with the two artists (and good friends!) behind the Pajaro Dune project, David Ortolà (aka Syoqh or formerly d_o_ppelgaenger) and Jaime Romero aka Estrato Aurora. Their warm presence and humbleness belies their respective talents and experience in the studio and in the booth. Ondrǣdan, the forthcoming release on their imprint, Sediments, continues their musical story to the tune of five new originals all based around a human motif and the raw emotions that come with.
Pensive, and methodical, the atmospheres created on the Ondrǣdan release (old English meaning to be afraid) all give off a certain feeling of tension and unease. From the start, ‘what it means to be human?’ leads the listeners down a twisting path to the depths beyond. With each track adding to the narrative, and posing questions such as ‘what is the color of fear’.
This journey culminates in the final track on the release, ‘evil was already there’, and our premiere. Slowly rising like a figure in the distance, the track starts off with a stutter-like percussion line undulating around the melancholic pads. Slight tonality changes giving movement and a feeling of life. As the track progresses, a brooding bass line enters the equation and a litany of different textures, bells and other additions seem to flit in and out of existence.
Evil was already there, and the rest of the Ondrǣdan release will be out on the 28th of August, both on vinyl and digitally.
