PREMIERE: Milio - Overdub (Morsal Remix) [VIAVIA Records]
This is a really exciting one to premiere here at Delayed. Some of our readers may have heard of Arutani, and some may have now heard of his new alias Morsal, recently platformed for the first time on Dutch outfit Far Blue's SoundCloud channel with a live set that sets the scene for the new direction of the artist and pastures new in terms of format, discovery and style.
A leap of faith but a natural one. Patience, as we know, is a virtue, and good timing is everything. Sketches later, hours in the studio, a sound that makes Gianni happy is the output, started from scratch.
As he stated in his recent post, there's a nod of appreciation for the music previously made. We wouldn't be where we are today without our past, and it's all shaped his deep appreciation of craft and attachment to one's art and work.
This is what has happened for Gianni in his switch from downtempo leaning sounds to more dancefloor, drive-centred tracks orbiting around shades of house and techno that make for inspiring sets, introspective moments, builds and movement.
Morsal's first release under this new project is a remix of a Dutch artist called Milio who runs VIAVIA Records, based in Den Bosch in the Southern Netherlands. Milio is a frequent producer on the label, representing its catalogue from the dub techno and deep house side of things. Nothing is ever strictly defined in that sense, but it's what makes sense to talk about with this remix.
The track is clean, atmospheric, soft around the edges, core dub essence, techno led, and one that will find its way into sets from favourites in the scene like Ben Kaczor, Martinou, Lola Haro and more. Gianni told me he was a big fan of the original track and that the opportunity from Milio to offer him his first remix was a perfect fit. And I agree.
Gianni wanted to start something new, to give light to new dreams, and has done exactly that. Belonging is transient but music is eternal. What I like most about the delivery of this new project is his transparency and communication about his own journey.
Can't wait to see what's next and to see him play a live set in the near future. You'll also notice a mysterious Oblon account on his profile, which we won't say too much about right now, but it's another exciting project coming out of Zürich soon.
