PREMIERE: Module One - Sundays [Luck Of Access]
Sundays is a new release from Module One, Berlin based producer, on Andrey Pushkarev's Luck of Access (LOA), a label releasing at a measured pace since 2017. A delight for those drawn to the deeper realms of house, techno, minimal and dub-influenced sounds. His debut on the label is a four-tracker, with the closer being a rework from Leafar Legov's new alias 'RFL'. One for vinyl lovers digging deep and ambient textures.
At the start of May, I visited Berlin and Victor took me on a walking tour of Berlin, marking off a visual map of venues across the city. Fresh off a busy week at a festival in the UK countryside and about to head into another festival in Stuttgart, I wanted to slow down and hear more about Victor's experience living there. That conversation flowed naturally into his music, after a glass of wine and some bibimbap, we positioned ourselves with a beer on a bench in Fischerinsel looking over the river.
Victor told me he started working on this release a few years back, in spring, after an inspiring set from Eli Verveine at Else, at a point when dub-techno was the core sound coming out of his studio. Time moved on and the release got parked. One session saw him locked into the beats and bass, and months later he found the synergy between the parts. As this time to organise folders and come up with new concepts, was usually carved out on Sundays, the release was named accordingly. At Delayed, we love Sundays, which feels like the perfect track to premiere on the EP.
I'd love to say it's quintessentially Victor, and in so many ways it is. Uplifting melancholy, pads that lift you, hat and kick combos that move you. But this is just one corner of his catalogue, something I came to understand over the days spent with him. A talented producer who follows his gut, never conforming to a particular style. I've been fortunate enough to hear pre-masters of his forthcoming album, a natural development from his previous one on Fauxpas Muzik, with new flavours, collaborations and a few surprises in the mix but for now back to this release on LOA…
Racks of keys, chords and melodies woven through drum sequences and breakdowns. Sand underfoot, warm, for me is the feeling it gives with festival season approaching. Explore Victor's output on Discogs or Bandcamp and the variety speaks for itself, but what runs through all of it is quality control. Letting the dots connect on a timeline that feels right, driven by instinct rather than any linear process. Enjoy this one and keep your eyes peeled for what's next.
