PREMIERE: Milio & Nuno Dos Santos - Drift [SoHaSo x VIAVIA]
The Dutch collaboration between SoHaSo and VIAVIA Records, led by label heads Nuno Dos Santos and Milio, gives a proper nod to the ’90s with a new four-track EP, Drift. Three originals and a remix from Human Space Machine bring some serious flashbacks to raves from a few decades ago: the golden era of acid house and breaks.
Our premiere today, the title track, Drift, sets the tone right away. A driving groove paired with an arpeggiated sequence creates a solid foundation, but Millio and Nuno Dos Santos aren't shy about drifting into places you probably wouldn't expect to end up when the track first starts. What initially feels controlled and relatively straightforward gradually begins to come apart at the edges.
The groove keeps things moving while a strange, trippy melody starts taking over. Its resonance gets progressively wilder, pushing Drift deeper into acid territory and changing the character of the track along the way. There's a playful quality to the whole thing, as if both producers decided to see how far they could take the original idea without completely losing sight of where they started.
What comes out of it is simply a fun track. Driving and trippy, with something positive running through it, but just enough weirdness to keep things interesting. A very good combination, if you ask us.
