PREMIERE: Mikkel Metal - Bend [Echocord]
Firmly secured as one of the pillars of dub techno and beyond, Echocord needs little to no introduction. The Danish imprint has been a guiding light for so many as it enters its 24th year of existence. Each time, release after release, Kenneth Christiansen provides unwavering support for a genre built on groove and nuance. Today’s story adds another chapter to one that started back at the very first release, with Mikkel Metal’s Rebuild EP joining an ever growing string of his releases spanning two decades on the label.
Sliding in at 6 tracks, consisting of four originals and remixes by Luke Hess and Frenk Dublin, Rebuild provides in spades exactly what one would want from a look on the tin. Percussion forward mixes, moody melodies and thumping bass lines, with a bit of flair thrown in.
Today’s focus, ‘Bend’ begins fairly benign, a pulsing melody that ebbs and flows against the snappy shakers and kick drums. Nothing too unexpected, however as the track progresses, an unexpected Balearic element takes center stage as guitar plucks lead the way into a feel good territory.
‘Bend’, and in turn the entirety of the ‘Rebuild EP’ will be released on January 30th.
