PREMIERE: Javier Marimon - Late Shed [Second End Records]
Lyon based label, Second End Records has announced a follow up release in their ‘Collage’ series of VA’s. Marking the fourth overall entry on the imprint founded in 2024 by Jonnnah, (who launched things off with a great offering as well) includes submissions by other notable names such as Lucas Dupuy, Erik M, and Conna Haraway and comes in at a solid 15 tracks, exploring all the realms of sweeping ambient, dub, techno and all that lays in-between.
A name that rarely needs an introduction, the multi-disciplinary artist Javier Marimon seems to pop up anywhere and everywhere. His impact on our scene is widespread and immediately recognizable. Warm do I feel when his music crosses our proverbial desks and I have the opportunity to write and give back for someone who gives so much.
Late Shed, a rhythmic, stripped back affair combines Javier’s love of texture, with developing melodies and groove. Key to the track is the electric snap and squelch of the modular sounds as Javier plays with them throughout. A back and forth battle between higher and lower intensity and frequency. Meanwhile the steady kick and bass line lend the track more towards an energetic feel however this would sit right at home in the middle parts of any opening set.
Late Shed and in turn, Collage Vol.2 will be released later this month, on the 22nd of May.
