PREMIERE: Scøpe, Xanexx, Ve Bogel - Horaweave [SCOPÁVIK]
SCOPÁVIK, a hub for deep, hypnotic techno in the South Korean scene who we wrote about back in January, returns with a collaborative release from the three label heads. We see artists Scøpe, Xanexx, and Ve Bogel conceptualising and executing every path they take. As founders and organisers, they stay at the forefront with their own releases and live sets. They constantly jam and experiment as a trio, which is something I am hoping to see for myself one day (hopefully at Vurt). This is a realm of music that underpins and evolves the darker, more atmospheric side of Seoul’s electronic landscape. Their new EP, Horaweave, is another brilliant example of what can be done when you spend hours in a studio together to see which direction you eventually travel down. The track we are shouting about today is also titled Horaweave, and it feels like the spine of the entire record.
From the off, you have a sense of where the track is taking you, yet it remains alluring as it builds toward its peak. Distant percussion tempts us in, a solo dancer / percussionist seducing us toward the dance floor. We are pulled forward by an impellent drive and rising intensity. While new layers appear and compile, those initial elements that first drew us in remain, reappearing if you listen for them.
I felt lassoed by the energy of the swirling, hypnotic loop. That propulsion persists throughout, though it eventually subsides, slowing down out of that state of transcendence. At some point it has to end, I guess? This is a huge EP and a standout release from the three label pilots.
Horaweave releases digitally on SCOPÁVIK on March 21st.
