PREMIERE: Fraser Alexander - Sway [DU:RA]

A hypnotizing new release from Sydney-based DU:RA landed in our inbox recently - ‘Rush’, the debut EP from New Zealander Fraser Alexander, a producer & DJ who’s sound consists of dark, murky techno with a sharp edge & an attention to subtleties.

‘Sway’ is a track that doesn’t waste any time in building a groove, rather it focuses on the delicate dance of introducing textures that come & go. An 8-minute journey of contained but constant motion, I find myself bobbing my head throughout the entirety of it, as I’m pulled deeper & deeper into a trance. It takes me back to a very specific collection of dancefloor memories, with visions in my head of a dark dancefloor, the occasional white strobe, & a mass of dancers locked into that familiar mesmeric sway.

Fraser’s use of space allows for a lovely controlled chaos, with an amalgamation of delays over top of a dense low end & percussive loop sounding like giant chunks of rock being rhythmically pulverized into oblivion. ‘Sway’ & the rest of his ‘Rush’ EP were created during those brief but inspired windows of time in between parenting duties, something I know all too well! I look forward to hearing more from Fraser in the future.

‘Rush’ including 2 remixes from label heads n-trip & Ritmu, releases digitally on June 5th on DU:RA.
