PREMIERE: Eafhm - Slow blue [Profundo Collective]
Five years of Amsterdam-based label Profundo Collective calls to rally together some masters of the deep for a compilation fit for the occasion. Ritmos de la Reunión Vol.3 is a real reunion featuring the likes of Adhémar, Owl, Hod, Trøm Borg, Brian Fasano, and Eafhm. Run by Malii (Noah Lyas), Alberto (Amnis), and Tom (Trøm Borg), these are three incredibly passionate and committed friends I’ve been fortunate enough to hang out with at multiple events over the years including Above Below, Predawn Festival, and Monument. They are amazing producers too, which should have been one of the first things I said.
Seeing this trio and the friends who join them along the way brings me pure happiness, and I often know when I might bump into them, knowing then we are guaranteed a good time. Their sound spans vast realms across their 16 releases to date, meandering across all things deep techno. This volume focuses on the slower side and serves as a sweet way to mark this milestone. There is a calmness in the sound that has always been integral to their output over the years.
We are featuring Slow blue by Eafhm. Jorge is a producer and sound designer from Mexico City, as well as the founder and curator of Secuencias Temporales. He has released on countless labels in the scene including his own, Oslated, Melifera, Indefinite Pitch, Predawn Records, and of course, Profundo. Eafhm was one of the first artists to release on the label. Back when the guys were just launching the project, they reached out to him about a premiere and to exchange music with Secuencias. Jorge was a fan of that very first release, and the connection grew naturally from there. This led to his early release on Profundo, Language Without Alphabet in 2021, as well as his and Malii's joint EP Rhythms and Thoughts on Oslated back in 2023. This contribution of his cements a friendship. Producing anything from blissful ambience to high-energy breaks to the softest deep techno, his artistry is broad. Over time, you will feel and enjoy him exploring new avenues across different imprints and podcast series.
A rhythmic sway. Shingles at the bottom of the seabed. A symmetrical, gentle flow. It is a track with three very distinct paces you can choose to lean on, like meeting currents. All are tied together, joining to move this wave in the same direction. The sea analogy came subconsciously from the track name, whether that was Eafhm's intention or not. It has that power and grasp. The first and last beats are deeply rooted, removed from the rest of the layers, starting and ending the track perfectly in the sea-like voyage mentioned above.
As a kid, and even now, I’m sure we’ve all felt the magic of putting a shell to our ear and being transported to the ocean. This track does that every time I listen. I wonder now if the same thing will happen to you. Let your mind take you.
Happy 5 years Profundo.
