Delayed x Mostra: Dialog Live A/V

Friday’s ambient program at this year’s Mostra Festival came full circle. It opened earlier in the day with beautifuly lush sets by Slowfoam, Margaux Gazur, and Nigul, and closed in a way people are still talking about. After exceptional performances by Patrick Russell and Robert Henke, Dialog took over a booth set in the middle of Fabra i Coats’ main room. People gathered close, stretching out on mats and bean bags as the set slowly unfolded. It was an ideal setup for a day defined by attentive listening.

Dialog’s live A/V performance developed through gradual accumulation. Improvisation shaped the form, with dub-inflected textures moving at a pace that encouraged stillness instead of reaction. Whether experienced as a focused A/V piece on a large screen or simply as audio drifting through a room, the recording captures that balance with clarity. With the next season of Mostra approaching and the 2026 jubilee edition already on the horizon, this feels like the right point to close the chapter before moving forward.

Dialog Live A/V blurs the lines between mechanical rhythmic impulses and organic tones and textures malleable metallic and elemental forms passing through chasms of processing and shrouded in womb-like melancholic hum. Each live performance is a mind-melting journey, best experienced in the darkness of a dimly lit venue where every sonic detail comes alive accompanied with minimalistic visuals. There’s a sense of dub techno’s eternal atmosphere flickering at the heart of the sound, but Dialog take this pervasive mood into forward-thinking territory with a distinctly tactile approach to sound design and visual immersion. Dialog is a creative exchange between Samuel van Dijk and Rasmus Hedlund that results in hazy sounds with a clear message on their own imprints DOT and Dialog Sound. They are two serious dub heads obsessed with the art of crafting the perfect sonics and have a shared appreciation of Rastafarian language and culture that runs deep throughout their explorations as they enter you into hypnotic mind states and escapist rhythms. Their fascination with flow and emotion subliminally draws from Jamaican roots, Berlin dub depths and their own geographically north-bound sound palette.
